THE TOP PLAYERS AT THE RENDEZVOUS!
It is the tradition since 1993: the Open 13 Provence welcomes every year the cream of the world tennis. And the 2022 edition will be no exception to the rule. Indeed, four players from Top 10 in the world (and five members of the Top 15) are expected to take to the courts of the Palais des Sports in Marseille! Starting with the Greek Stefanos TsitsipasThe world's fourth-ranked player will be looking to win his third title after his victories in 2019 and 2020. But the road to the grail will not be an easy one, and many players will try to play the spoils.
Starting with Andrey Rublev. The 24-year-old Russian has been making rapid progress recently, as evidenced by the six ATP titles he has won since 2020 (including four ATP 500). Back in Marseille for the third time (first round in 2017, quarter-finals in 2019), he will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with this year.
Finalist in Marseille in 2020, we will also see Felix Auger-AliassimeHe is now the ninth-ranked player in the world, the highest ranking of his career. The young Canadian has never won a title on the ATP Tour (despite eight finals), but he just won the ATP Cup with Canada earlier this year, the new team competition organised by the ATP.
Last season, he reached a milestone in the Grand Slam with a semi-final at the US Open. He will be back at the Palais des Sports in 2022 with more experience and maturity to aim for a first title!
This high-flying line-up is completed by a fourth member of the world's Top 10 in the person of Jannik Sinner. At only 20 years old, the Italian nugget has really exploded in the eyes of the general public in 2021 with incredible figures: 46 wins for 22 losses, four ATP titles and a place among the best players in the world! This is his third consecutive appearance at the Open 13, beaten each time by Medvedev - who can stop him this year?
Surprise guest in last year's Australian Open semi-finals, Aslan Karatsev is the last pillar of the Top 5 of the Open 13 Provence 2022 edition. A recent winner of the Sydney tournament, the Russian will discover the warm atmosphere of Marseille for the first time and there is no doubt that he will want to leave his mark.
WITH THE FRENCHIES!
The French contingent will also be well represented in Marseille, a tournament that has generally been quite successful for them with 9 wins in 29 editions. It is with pleasure that we will find the explosive left-hander Ugo HumbertHe is the French number 2. A formidable indoor player, he will be keen to do even better than last year, when he failed to reach the semi-finals.
Alongside him, we will find two other left-handers, Hugo Gaston and Corentin Moutetnot to mention Benjamin Bonzione of last season's revelations.
Finally, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, recipient of a Wild Card, and Richard Gasquet will complete an extremely high level of sporting activity, which already heralds a crazy 30th edition!
